Jewelry Display Update

If you have a Jewelry Business and you’re selling pieces of your jewelry items on craft shows, then you must have eye catching designs for your jewelries on display. Basically, when you display your handmade jewelries, you are promoting them to the public. But sometimes you find it hard to be subjective especially when you frequently see your jewelry booth and display just the same as it was before. Then it is time for you to have a jewelry display update. In this way, you can be expecting more sales from your new and creative jewelry displays.

It is not easy to decide whether you have to update your jewelry display or not, considering that you’ve already invested so much time and energy in creating and presenting your items. One way to look at your booth display objectively is to use your camera during your craft show. In your free time, take several photos of your jewelry items at your booth from different angles. If you have a display of polymer clay jewelry, take 4 or 5 different photos  of the same display. Bring the photos back to your home and spread it out on a surface where you can objectively observe them. If you find out that all your displays are no longer eye catching, then you have to make a step to boost your potential sales.

If you’re still not convinced with what the pictures tell you, ask an objective opinion from your friend or from a member of your family. Encourage them to visit your booth and ask them for some feedback or suggestions. In this way, you will be able to acquire fresh and unbiased criticisms from your display that you haven’t noticed all the while.

Think of the possible ways to get fresh ideas that will help you update your jewelry displays more effectively to attract more customers. Think about your layout, are all your jewelry designs just put on the table, try separate each different style so that the stand out more. Having your cameos mixed in with your teenage jewelry designs wont highlight either of them and you could lose sales.

Grab the opportunity to take some ideas on eye catching displays from other craft booths but, be sure to ask for permission first. Know the reason why other booths attract more customers. Study all the pictures you have taken and try to determine the interesting features of each booth that yours doesn’t have.

There are also other ways to get more jewelry display ideas to increase your sales such as visiting some furniture and interior design stores, local art galleries, crafter malls, and antique malls. It would be much better if you will be permitted to take some pictures of their display. This will just require a day for you to do this task and return to your home with some interesting and helpful ideas for your new jewelry displays.

Try to visit also your nearest local bookstores and read some interior design magazines. There are lots of display companies that have online sites to serve as references. You can browse the internet for online forums about crafts and jewelry selling, and read some successful booth design blog write-ups.

It is always a smart decision to update your jewelry display in the right interval, especially when you’re starting to fall off in sales. If you are displaying your jewelry items in the same manner more frequently, potential buyers will easily get bored. Remember, people always want a fresh and original jewelry trend. Always be prepared and be confident to display those eye catching pieces of jewelries to catch potential buyers’ attention. Another great way to keep people coming back to your display is to offer them some free literature, some cheap printouts of simple techniques, like how to make a button bracelet. They are more likely to buy from you if you offer them the how to do it instructions as well as provide the materials.

Handmade Glass Beads

The method and technology of making handmade glass bead is considered as one of the oldest creative hobbies of humans. Egyptian faience beads are glass-like beads which come from a type of clay bead that has a self-forming vitreous coating. They are perhaps the earliest from ancient Egyptians. In some cultures, glass objects were reserved for royalty. Owning a glass object is closely associated with owning other luxurious objects. If you can afford it, it’s yours.

What are glass beads anyway? Glass beads are beads made of glass. They are sometimes called lamp work beads. This type of beads can be poured into moulds, cut and polished as faux gemstones, and can be stretched and pulled into any shape you desire. These beads can be simple or decorative depending on the artist’s preference. Different kinds of glass are used and colors are also played with to create the desired look. Before you start to make your own beads and end up with bowl fulls of different types of beads all mixed up, take some time to learn how to organize your beading stuffs.

The first thing to study before using the torch and other dangerous tools for glass bead making is to follow safety tips in jewelry making. These tools can be very dangerous not only to you, but to others around you. When creating glass beads, you have to melt a narrow rod of glass using a torch. The molten glass is wound around a mandrel which is a thin length of stainless steel. The space where the mandrel is set becomes the hole of the bead. Holding and turning the mandrel in different positions allows gravity which helps forming the bead. There are tools needed for pushing and pulling glass beads to form different kinds of shapes.

Working with a lamp to create glass beads is not easy, but patience and practice will help along the way. You have to remember that you are working with glass and torch. You must learn different amounts and levels of heat that are necessary for the glass to flow. Consider also the decorations you will add and the different glass colors you can work with and even combine.

Glass shrinks when it cools. The beads are pulled out from the flame to cool; they are left out in open air which means that while the outside of the bead is rapidly cooling, its inside is still very hot. The uneven temperature resulting from this method will often cause a bead to crack.

Kiln annealing is a process by which both the inside and outside temperature can be closely regulated. The bead is placed in high temperature to make sure that all the glass is evenly heated. After several hours, the bead can now be put out at room temperature for cooling. But it is important to make sure that the glass beads you buy are all kiln annealed. For tiny glass beads, you can also try cooling them from within layers of insulation. This method is different from the annealing process but it has proven to be effective for small amounts of glass. Most products and tools come with a set so always follow the beading instructions an important tool for beading if you want to learn and get it right.

Argentium – A Great Sterling Silver Jewelry Option

Making metal jewelry has come a long way in the modern era. The advances in technology have produced a much lager and better quality variety of different types of metals. One of the greatest innovations has come in the sterling silver area. Through these advances it has made planning and designing your own jewelry much easier.

Compared to standard stainless silver the introduction of Argentium heralded a major breakthrough in silver jewelry design and manufacture. The majority of the time creating better designs and durability was directly linked to knowledge of how to improve craftsmanship, but with Argentinium sterling silver it makes silver jewelry making much easier than with the traditional metal. Making jewelry using Argentium has an advantage, especially when you do wire sculpture or with any type of jewelry using sterling silver, and you will be surprised how beautiful you’re created jewelry is with Argentium.

Argentium is a real and modern sterling silver because it contains the minimum of 92.5% pure silver. This is the product of research by Peter Johns at the School of Art & Design, Middlesex University. In 1990, Peter Johns began his research on the effects of germanium (a lustrous and hard silver-white metalloid) additions to alloys. And until now the university owns the patent and they are licensed to produce Argentium worldwide.

There are many advantages Argentium has compared with other traditional sterling silver, to name few this silver are fire scale-free alloy and has a high tarnish resistance. You can keep it gleaming by rinsing and wiping it with smooth cloth occasionally and it doesn’t even need any polishing.

Germanium is the element that helps prevent Argentium from tarnishing. This is a crystalline semi-metallic element and naturally found in small amounts of silver, copper and zinc ores, as well as in other minerals. This is chemically similar to tin since it is lustrous, hard silver-white metalloid, and with the same crystal structure as diamond. It forms an invisible film on the surface of silver alloy, and this film prevents oxygen from reaching tarnish-able metals.

In working with Argentium, you need to be aware of certain differences between Argentium and traditional sterling silver, except if you are merely incorporating Argentium findings or wire into their jewelry. As what I’ve said earlier, Argentium are not similar to other traditional silver, they are stiffer silver. So if you prefer to do wire sculpting, using a dead soft Argentium is highly recommended.

Just always remember that don’t do polishing if at all possible, but if you feel that they need to be polish, just be sure of using uncontaminated cloth by other metal polisher when wiping to maintain the main the exceptional beauty of Argentium sterling silver.

How to Make Simple Beaded Anklet

When you first start to make your own jewelry more often than not it starts out as a hobby, but can quickly grow into a small business. It is important to realize that learning simple projects like beaded anklets are a potential source of income. Even if you have no intention of starting a business always keep in mind that it is a possibility, and therefore you need to ask yourself at this stage as you are learning your trade, is good customer service important?

In many ways the answer is yes, not only to provide work on time to increase customer potential, but also providing quality workmanship will always bring repeat customers.

In making beaded jewelry to customize our look from head to toe, we always want to make a complete body jewelry accessory from a simple pair of earrings, necklace, bracelet, watch, and anklet. Each of these items has its own instruction on how to do it. Here a simple instruction on how to make a simple beaded Anklet:

Materials needed are:

  • small safety pins (add number of pins that has the same size)
  • choose large colorful beads that with a hole size that can go through the safety pins links
  • and small colorful beads with a hole size that can go through the safety pin’s sharp end
  • elastic thin string

The first thing to do is to string the beads on the safety pins one by one when you are almost about to reach the link, adding the large beads. You need to twist and turn the safety pin when you reach the link, this will enable you to push through the small beads to the other of the safety pin. After that, string the large beads on the link. After finishing, close the safety pins to their own buckle. Just continue to do the same step for the rest of other best and safety pins.

After creating numbers of it, use a string of elastic and run it through the links of the safety pins on one side and tie it together, make sure to test it first, try to make it pass through your feet till to your ankle without breaking. Using the second elastic string on the other side, run the safety pins buckle through the same way that it will pass through your feet. And that’s it, as simple as that you have now your handmade beaded anklet. If you want, you can also create a smaller one to make it a bracelet. You can choose different colors for your design, and to match your different kinds of clothes as well.

Once you learn how to make a few different items of jewelry, it won’t take long for you to be able to turn your jewelry making into a profitable hobby. You don’t need to produce thousands of different products, as long as the ones you make are of good quality and look good. As your skills improve so will your confidence in selling your jewelry and then you will look to other areas to sell your designs. Doing a search on Google you will find lots of good advice on where to sell, how to sell, how to increase home party sales etc. It is important at this stage as you are learning new techniques, to realize that you have potential to become a self-employed jewelry maker. For now you may only see it as a hobby, but bear in mind that if you have some talent you can make it a lot more than just a hobby.

Safety Tips in Jewelry Making

Jewelry-making is a fun thing to do, some people do this just for a hobby and others do this to earn money. Just as we would like this to be fun, we also need to be in a safe comfort zone. Whatever types of jewelry we would like to make, there is always numerous danger that may occur. If you are making handmade glass beads you will be dealing with very hot torches and these can be extremely dangerous.

It is important to be safe while making jewelries. Some of the equipments and things that are necessary can be fun to use but can turn to dangerous things as well. We should take this into consideration especially when working at home, surrounded with kids and pets. Different types of bead craft hobbies require different types of tools, so it is important to find the relevant safety information for your specific craft. Here are some safety tips that we would like to consider:

We tend to use glass containers in storing beads and small item materials because we can mostly find them inside our house, but the danger is, they are easily be roll off in our work area and break, causing to an accident.

Keep sharp and pointed tools safely. Sharp and pointed tools like needles should be kept in a wooden case. It’s very dangerous because of its tiny and sharp feature, where you can’t easily see them. Sometimes, you will have to step on to this item, get wounded, before you find them.

Be aware of loose beads. These small items can be a choking hazard for the children and pets. It can also cause accident when you step on them which make you slip. This is a very common incident that sometimes we took for granted.

Wires and threads should be kept in a container or a large zip lock bags. If wires and threads are not kept bundled together, you will end up tripping on them. Be careful also on hard wires that can be pointed and edgy.

Avoid working with glass and glue in the house. If it is not much necessary, avoid working with those materials inside your house, your little loved ones loved to roam around while playing, they might be in danger. Garage area is a good example for your glass works

Be aware of those things that are eye-leveled of the children and pets. Don’t scatter the things that can easily be seen by your children and pets, especially children are very curious of the things that older people used.

Every once in a while, take a personal safety survey. After finishing your work and cleaning up your mess, it is important to check once in a while if things are still in their proper places or are they still kept in their respective storage area.

Your tools are your trade and not only from a safety point of view, but also learning what jewelry making tools and their proper usage are, will make you a better craftsman.

Jewelry Making Money Savers – Use eBay to Find Cheap Beads

I’m pretty sure that you already have favorite stores online and offline for your beads and jewelry supplies. But, do you want to know where you can easily find the best prices for them.

You can find them in various supply stores in wholesale and you can have an array of things you are looking for, they made it available online. eBay is one of the best places to find out how to source the best wholesale jewelry. Not only are there hundreds of wholesalers to find your supplies, but there are ready made jewelry items that you could buy and resell at a profit.

However if your quite experimental in the things that you’re doing, you tend to find something more than the usual. It is a wide accepted idea that what the stores are always in focus are those that is “hot” in the market. Their primary goal is to make money out of it. This simply means that it is possible for you to have a hard time looking for something that is unusual for your experimentation, because those stores offer a few of those things.

So where you can find the stuffs you are looking to? Try to visit auction sites, eBay for example; this is the biggest bead store that offers the widest variety of beads and other materials you can choose from. Plus, you can be updated if other artist is selling off any of their inventory.

eBay always offers tons of jewelry making supplies, from handmade glass beads to other materials that you will need during beading, and this can be fun to use since you are competing to bid against others to win the product you want to buy.
